The Studio, Fresh Bakin’ and FreQ Nasty presents
Yoga of Bass – A Workshop on Music, Yoga, Ecstacy and Freedom
Yoga of Bass is a 4.5 hour workshop combining lecture, discussion, yoga, movement and a live downtempo Dub Kirtan DJ set.
International DJ/Music Producer FreQ Nasty (aka Darin McFadyen), a yoga practitioner for 13 years, and his partner yoga/meditation teacher Claire Thompson offer an engaging and interactive look at the ecstatic, life-changing experiences people have with music, Yoga and the dancefloor. This 3 hour workshop combines lecture, discussion, yoga, movement, and a live downtempo DJ set, all focusing on the relationship between the ecstatic dance floor experience and the meditational path of Yoga.
In the talk, Darin and Claire give personal and musical examples from their lives and careers, investigating what the classical Yoga texts have to say about ecstatic experiences and exploring how a yogic and spiritual practice can help you bring this feeling of love, unity and connectedness off the dance floor and into the rest of your life. Then put these ideas into motion as Claire leads a vibrant yoga asana and free movement class weaving in themes from the talk, all set to a specially sculpted, dub and bass-oriented DJ set by Atmaspheric, FreQ’s downtempo alter-ego.
Claire and Darin have offered “The Yoga of Bass” presentation in the United States, Canada, England and Australia at yoga studios, art spaces, dance clubs, and music festivals including Wanderlust Yoga Festival, Lightning in a Bottle, Glade Festival UK, Eclipse 2012 Australia, and Symbiosis. Together they have studied the great texts of Yoga and Buddhism with their teacher Venerable Sumati Marut and the Yoga Studies Institute, and perform with their band the Dub Kirtan All Stars (www.dubkirtan.com). Claire has trained at Exhale in Los Angeles with Hala Khouri and Julian Walker, as well as practicing massage therapy for 14 years, while Darin has practiced Yoga in the Satyananda lineage for 13 years.
