Fresh Bakin’ teams up with Mindful Massive to bring VIBESQUAD to South Lake Tahoe

Fresh off a four month tour with Bassnectar, Colorado bass producer VibeSquaD is bringing his “orphan alien” music to Whiskey Dick’s for an exclusive bass night provided by Fresh Bakin’ and Mindful Massive.  Starting the evening off will be North Lake’s DJ/producer Bim Tim and South Lake’s DJ S1NTH3SYS.

The 2006 inception of VibeSquaD at Symbiosis put producer Aaron Holstein at the forefront of the burgeoning bass craze. From his discombobulating beats and minimalist, gurgling bass on “Domepiece” from 2007’s Return of the Pudding People, to the flexed out kicks and bombastic wobbles—replete with his own signature pitched up hip-hop vocals—of “Flipping Acrobats” on 2010’s The FIRE, VibeSquaD has maintained his position, poised on the cusp of the next big sound while staying true to his unique voice. Over time, Holstein has carved out a distinctive niche, which blends his love for all things bass music, with the funk obsession of his youth. This bouncy, glitched-up, and wobbled-out style is most apparent on his latest EP, Remix Mashers Vol. 1, which opens with a rehashing of Sly & the Family Stone’s “Family Affair.” With four full-lengths, three EPs, and a slew of remixes out on forward-thinking labels Muti Music, Interchill, and Proboscis, Holstein is as prolific as he is a pioneer.

Tickets for this shows are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and are available at Whiskey Dick’s, Melting Pot World Emporium, New Moon Natural Foods Truckee and Tahoe City, Mad About Music, or online at www.www.staging.freshbakin.flywheelsites.com

The Polish Ambassador coming to Reno’s 1-UP

The Polish Ambassador shows are not about pounding your body into submission. For the Polish Ambassador project, born on the streets of Chicago and San Francisco, infectious melody is paramount. However, this never overshadows the depth and harmonic complexity that have made the Ambassador a favorite amongst festival aficionados worldwide. Warm, analogue dreamwave; mind-altering glitch; world-infused groove; bass-fueled breaks; sexified downtempo; electric lullabies; and psy-fi funk are just a few of the genres that have poured from the Ambassador’s soul into earbuds and ghetto-blasters across the galaxy.

Wick-it the Instigator has a reputation for fresh and mind-blowing remixes beyond just dubstep and mash-ups. In a live setting he gets people moving with his humorous pop culture samples over beats rooted in hip hop and electronic bass. Then there’s Barisone, the critically acclaimed Portland DJ known for putting his original spin on hip hop-centered dance tracks with his own loops, layers, and edits.

Friday January 25th these incredible DJs will perform at Reno’s only arcade/venue 1UP.  Tickets for this shows are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and are available at 1 Up Melting Pot World Emporium (Reno), New Moon Natural Foods Truckee and Tahoe City, Mad About Music (South Lake Tahoe), or online at www.www.staging.freshbakin.flywheelsites.com. To prepare yourself download the Ambassador’s 9 album, 30 remix discography for free at thepolishambassador.com.

More Firepower to 1 UP

December 7, 2012
Post Image

Since we are heading into a big winter in a venue that had previously been a late
night location, I’m going to give everyone a little heads up about our upcoming gigs
at 1Up, located at 214 W Commercial Row.
214 W Commercial Row is a great space, no matter what the name on the outside
reads. It’s a really fantastic size for our type of shows. We can be loud. We can go
late. Drinks aren’t expensive. Be nice to the staff and they’ll be nice back. No one
ever told us what to book, what to charge or how to program our events. You can sit
down on the perimeter or you can get in the thick of it in front of the stage. It has an
actual backstage area. All the staff and security are good to us. These are all aspects
that make it ideal from a production standpoint. There are not many places like it in
the US…we (as a city) are lucky to have a place like this.

When it was WüRK a lot of amazing shows happened there. WüRK was an
interesting place as it turned into the downtown late night spot and people from all
the bars ended up there starting at 2am. It got to be kind of a habit to start putting
our headliners on at 2am. The problem with that format is it alienates a large
portion of fans who can’t or don’t want to stay out that late. We learned however
that if it’s a really well-known act, we can still pack the place by midnight, so…is it
necessary to really put on headliners at 2am? We don’t think so anymore.

So let it be known (is this a DECREE?), unless it is billed as an “afterparty,” expect
the headlining acts performing at 1Up to start their sets between 11:00pm-1am.
We’ll still have support acts after they finish for those who want to keep it going
(it is Nevada with no last call so obviously let’s keep rocking). Basically…for the
comfort and vibe of the audience, venue and artists, we’d rather have the room 2/
3 full with people who are there for the music, than a sold-out room ½-filled with
people oblivious to the awesomeness onstage.
