Be a part of movie history….Fresh Bakin’ and Bryon Evans Films shoots a scene for The Empire Strikes Back: Uncut

January 16, 2013
Post Image

People keep asking why we keep asking for extras….well as Star Wars nerds, when we saw the fan project Star Wars: Uncut, we couldn’t believe it what we witnessed. They took Episode 4, A New Hope, and chopped it up into 20 second chunks. Then after the fans went and re-shot the scenes however they wanted to, the producers piece it back together. What results is a non-stop laugh-a-thon (first time typing that!) of mostly low budget, hilarious scenes….sometimes live action, sometimes stop-action with Legos and other toys, sometimes drawings, or other things you’ll never expect. The Star Wars mythology is so embedded in our brains that we all have certain scenes, lines, conversations, etc that totally remind us of Star Wars. When we see these scenes done by other people, but following the continuation of the story, it’s makes for a totally fresh and interesting watch.

So at 1pm Thursday, 1/17, we are meeting at the Mount Rose Meadows to shoot the following scene. The one with Princess Leia is already finished, so we are asking people to wear ski/snowboard gear (dressing ridiculous is totally encouraged) to shoot the scene with Rebels getting ready for the Imperial attack on Hoth Rebel Base.

DATE: Friday January 18th and Saturday January 19, 2013

LOCATIONS: 214 W Commercial Row, Reno / 850 North Lake Blvd Tahoe City, CA
TICKETS: $15 Advance, $20 door, 21+

Legendary house DJ Mark Farina, known for his heavy influence on San Francisco and Chicago house music, is coming to Reno and Tahoe January 18th and 19th 2013. He will be joined in the booth by supporting acts Pezzner, Sulli & 5657 in Reno and Grant Kaye and Chango in Tahoe, with Soulstice Sound and Second Dawn bringing the signature bass and atmosphere to both shows.

DJ Mark Farina comes from the underground house music scene of early 90’s Chicago, where
he made a name for himself selling his down tempo mix tapes at a local record store to pay for his expanding vinyl collection. Farina’s fusion of acid jazz with urban beats quickly gained a cult following and in 1992 he had started a weekly “Mushroom Jazz” night in San Francisco. By 1994 the now legendary Monday night events had grown from a few dozen people to six or seven hundred weekly fanatics, leading Farina and his collaborators to develop the experience into an international music tour.

MUZIK, and BPM magazines have both listed Mark Farina in their top 20 DJs in the world, and reporters around the world say his performances (some rumored to last upwards of eight hours, spanning multiple BPMs and genres in separate rooms of the same venue) are stuff of legend.

Local production company Fresh Bakin’ is hosting Farina as the first of three house music parties of the Winter House Series at both 1UP and Lakeside.

Tickets to these 21+ events are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and are available now
through the Fresh Bakin’ website (www.FreshBakin.com,) Lakeside, New Moon Natural Foods (Tahoe City and Truckee), Mad About Music (South Tahoe), and the Melting Pot World Emporium (Reno). Doors will open and music will start at 9:30PM in Tahoe and 10:00pm in Reno, and will play on into the early morning hours.

NastyNasty, El Papa Chango, Annunakii, Coop da Loop, SubDalicious at Reno’s 1UP

DJ/Producer NastyNasty can best be described as a sonic fetishist. From his first single on San Franciscos Frite Nite imprint to his most recent release on the prestigious Planet Mu label he’s established his own abstract take on contemporary bass music and defined himself as one of North Americas most unique producers. A heavy helping of heartfelt vocal trickery and melodic sensibility accompany heavy drums and brow-raising bass sounds to construct songs that both stand as listening pieces as well as dance-floor wizardry. Producing for nearly a decade under different aliases, he’s shared the stage with a diverse selection of acts including; Joker, Ludacris, Richard Devine, Starkey, Megasoid, Slugabed and more.

Joining him for the evening will be Los Angeles producer Annunakii, who describes his own style as a “dramatic cosmic lazer battle between good and evil” and “dramatic cosmic crunk,” and the electro, ragga, breaks, and hip-hop expert El PapaChango along with local favorites Coop da Loop and a special tag-team set from SubDalicious (Subdocta and Heidilicious.)

Friday February 8th these incredible DJs will perform at Reno’s only arcade/venue 1UP.  Tickets for this shows are $13 in advance or $15 at the door and are available at 1 Up Melting Pot World Emporium (Reno), New Moon Natural Foods Truckee and Tahoe City, Mad About Music (South Lake Tahoe), or online at inticketing.www.freshbakin.com.

The Polish Ambassador coming to Reno’s 1-UP

December 29, 2012
EVENT:  The Polish Ambassador, Wick-it the Instigator, Barisone
LOCATION:  214 W. Commerical Row, Reno NV
DATE:  Fri. January 25, 2013
TIME:  10:00 PM
TICKETS:   21+, $15 advance  $20 door   http://freshbakin.inticketing.com

The Polish Ambassador coming to Reno’s 1-UP

The Polish Ambassador shows are not about pounding your body into submission. For the Polish Ambassador project, born on the streets of Chicago and San Francisco, infectious melody is paramount. However, this never overshadows the depth and harmonic complexity that have made the Ambassador a favorite amongst festival aficionados worldwide. Warm, analogue dreamwave; mind-altering glitch; world-infused groove; bass-fueled breaks; sexified downtempo; electric lullabies; and psy-fi funk are just a few of the genres that have poured from the Ambassador’s soul into earbuds and ghetto-blasters across the galaxy.

Wick-it the Instigator has a reputation for fresh and mind-blowing remixes beyond just dubstep and mash-ups. In a live setting he gets people moving with his humorous pop culture samples over beats rooted in hip hop and electronic bass. Then there’s Barisone, the critically acclaimed Portland DJ known for putting his original spin on hip hop-centered dance tracks with his own loops, layers, and edits.

Friday January 25th these incredible DJs will perform at Reno’s only arcade/venue 1UP.  Tickets for this shows are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and are available at 1 Up Melting Pot World Emporium (Reno), New Moon Natural Foods Truckee and Tahoe City, Mad About Music (South Lake Tahoe), or online at www.www.freshbakin.com. To prepare yourself download the Ambassador’s 9 album, 30 remix discography for free at thepolishambassador.com.

More Firepower to 1 UP

December 7, 2012
Post Image

Since we are heading into a big winter in a venue that had previously been a late
night location, I’m going to give everyone a little heads up about our upcoming gigs
at 1Up, located at 214 W Commercial Row.
214 W Commercial Row is a great space, no matter what the name on the outside
reads. It’s a really fantastic size for our type of shows. We can be loud. We can go
late. Drinks aren’t expensive. Be nice to the staff and they’ll be nice back. No one
ever told us what to book, what to charge or how to program our events. You can sit
down on the perimeter or you can get in the thick of it in front of the stage. It has an
actual backstage area. All the staff and security are good to us. These are all aspects
that make it ideal from a production standpoint. There are not many places like it in
the US…we (as a city) are lucky to have a place like this.

When it was WüRK a lot of amazing shows happened there. WüRK was an
interesting place as it turned into the downtown late night spot and people from all
the bars ended up there starting at 2am. It got to be kind of a habit to start putting
our headliners on at 2am. The problem with that format is it alienates a large
portion of fans who can’t or don’t want to stay out that late. We learned however
that if it’s a really well-known act, we can still pack the place by midnight, so…is it
necessary to really put on headliners at 2am? We don’t think so anymore.

So let it be known (is this a DECREE?), unless it is billed as an “afterparty,” expect
the headlining acts performing at 1Up to start their sets between 11:00pm-1am.
We’ll still have support acts after they finish for those who want to keep it going
(it is Nevada with no last call so obviously let’s keep rocking). Basically…for the
comfort and vibe of the audience, venue and artists, we’d rather have the room 2/
3 full with people who are there for the music, than a sold-out room ½-filled with
people oblivious to the awesomeness onstage.
