Chk Chk Chk (!!!) at Knitting Factory Reno

July 15, 2013

EVENT: Fresh Bakin’ presents (chk chk chk) with WHO CARES
LOCATION: Knitting Factory 211 N. Virginia St. Reno,NV
DATE: Wednesday August 28th, 2013
TIME: Door’s open at 7 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m.
TICKETS: All ages show, $15, $35 VIP

Fresh Bakin’ will showcase Chk Chk Chk (!!!) at the Knitting Factory August 28th, 2013.  !!! is an American band formed in the summer of 1995 by the merger of part of the groups Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. After a successful joint tour, these two teams have decided to mix the disco-funk with more aggressive sounds and integrate the hardcore singer Yah Mos. After a tour together, members of Sacramento bands The Yahmos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers formed !!!.

The band’s name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy”, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens’ Khoisan language were represented as “!”. However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. Chk Chk Chk is the most common pronunciation, but they could just as easily be called Pow Pow Pow, Bam Bam Bam, Uh Uh Uh, Caw Caw Caw, Boo Boo Boo etc.  The URL of their official website and the title of their MySpace page, however, suggests that “Chk Chk Chk” is the preferred pronunciation.

This event will also feature music by WHO CARES.  This CA group features indie style hip-hop music and has toured the West cost extensively.  Their most recent performance was at the Bounce Festival  in CA.

Tickets for these shows are $15 for general admitance or $35 for VIP and are available at Melting Pot World Emporium, New Moon Natural Foods Truckee and Tahoe City, Cal Neva cage or online at,

LA native ETC!ETC! is making waves with his trap and moombahton tracks and recent collaborations with Major Lazer, Bro Safari, and Brillz (to name a few.)  First attracted to Electro house for the big bass and floor-shattering fast-paced BPM, ETC!ETC! started to shift his focus to moombahton in early 2011 and starting to make an impact in the scene almost immediately . In just the past 12 months he has been played almost on a weekly rotation on BBC Radio 1 by Kissy Sell out & DJ Kapyer ,and the following keeps growing. With an eclectic mix of different audio flavors coming out of his arsenal it’s no wonder ETC!ETC! has garnered a diverse array of highly-prestigious support from EDM leaders Wolfgang Gartner, AC Slater, Congorock, 12th Planet x Skrillex, Mstrkrft , Dillon Francis, Diplo , and many others. With multiple forthcoming releases on Mad Decent, Teenage Riot Records ,Party Like US, Rot10 Musik and T&A , 2013 will be a big year for ETC!ETC!

VIBESQUAD            The 2006 inception of VibeSquaD at Symbiosis put producer Aaron Holstein at the forefront of the burgeoning bass craze. From his discombobulating beats and minimalist, gurgling bass on “Domepiece” from 2007’s Return of the Pudding People, to the flexed out kicks and bombastic wobbles—replete with his own signature pitched up hip-hop vocals—of “Flipping Acrobats” on 2010’s The FIRE, VibeSquaD has maintained his position, poised on the cusp of the next big sound while staying true to his unique voice. Over time, Holstein has carved out a distinctive niche, which blends his love for all things bass music, with the funk obsession of his youth. This bouncy, glitched-up, and wobbled-out style is most apparent on his latest EP, Remix Mashers Vol. 1, which opens with a rehashing of Sly & the Family Stone’s “Family Affair.” With four full-lengths, three EPs, and a slew of remixes out on forward-thinking labels Muti Music, Interchill, and Proboscis, Holstein is as prolific as he is a pioneer.

Sunday June 30th, 2013 Sunset SF, Fresh Bakin’ and Whatever Forever (120 Minutes/Future:Perfect) present a special evening at Public Works with New Orleans MC and Bounce Music pioneer Big Freedia, Los Angeles rap artist Lady Tragik, Santa Cruz hip-hop DJs Smasheltooth and Andrew the Pirate, Power-Punk-Pop artist Dick van Dick, and San Francisco’s own Vogue and Tone.

Big Freedia is an accomplished “Bounce” Rapper who lives in New Orleans and has had several New Orleans hit singles such as “Gin in My System” and “Azz Everywhere!” from her albums “An Ha, Oh Yeah” (1999) and “Queen Diva” (2003). Bounce is an original urban music rising up from the intimate and fun-loving nature of the housing projects which dominate the city’s street culture. “Sissy Bounce” is the informal name for a derivative of Bounce that has risen to prominence in recent years and features explicitly gay and cross-dressing musicians and themes. Big Freedia is at the forefront of this movement and

Indie blogger Velvet Park describes Lady Tragik as “a renaissance woman who takes photos of her sexy California life, makes short art-films, collaborates with designers and dancers and actresses, and writes, AND raps. It should go without saying that she’s a rising star in art or fashion or music or possibly even all of the above. She’s repping an emerging scene out there that appears to be glimmering with creativity and excitement.”

Smasheltooth and Andrew the Pirate both represent the Santa Cruz / West Coast hip hop scene and are notorious for infecting dance floor jams with inner-city raps, reggae infused bass, and soulful hip hop.

Dick van Dick  and Vogue and Tone will start the evening for what promises to be the party of Pride Weekend. Tickets are available at Public Works and

Greensky Bluegrass is Anders Beck on dobro, Michael Arlen Bont on banjo, Dave Bruzza playing guitar, Mike Devol  with upright bass and Paul Hoffman on mandolin. If you’re familiar with bluegrass music, then you’re tuned in to some of what Greensky Bluegrass does. They’re also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Garrin Benfield‘s sound has been described as Freestyle Acoustic Rock. His music is a blend of moody, guitar driven rock and polyrhythmic groove all run through the filter of a very serious Singer/Songwriter. His talent shines through as a solo artist when he flat-picks his way through complicated and lightning-fast arrangements and also while he uses a Loop Station to create mesmerizing soundscapes upon which he lays blistering rock, blues and jazz licks, darkened by his extensive use of effect pedals.  Improvisation is at the center of a Garrin Benfield concert experience. Garrin twists and turns the tunes each night in an ever-evolving attempt to keep searching for new musical challenges.

ediT is a Los Angeles based music producer and DJ best known as one-third of legendary electronic music act The Glitch Mob. He references his personal brand of music as a dancefloor oriented, “experimental, electronic hip hop thing,” but by any label his impact on both the international music scene and the LA underground is undeniable.

Emancipator is known for etheric melodies, immaculately smooth samples, and addictive drum beats.  One might struggle to place a finger on what makes the music so addictive, but would undoubtedly return to the underlying feeling of balance and connection. Now accompanied regularly by the harmonious swells of live violin played by Ilya Goldberg, Emancipator’s live performances have captivated a diverse audience across the globe.

Moksha has earned their reputation as Las Vegas’ secret weapon with explosive show filled with an arsenal of well-crafted material . This well-oiled machine is now emerging from the glitz and glamour of Sin City and quickly garnering a solid following of loyal fans on the West Coast. With guitar, keys, bass, drums, and horns, this unique blend of musicians lives and breathes in a deep pocket of funk rock. Swirling in subtlety, their music paints a sonic landscape that unfolds in the moment and feeds on the dynamic ebb and flow of audience and band interconnection. In other words, they will melt your faces. This show features special guest horn players Jen Hartswick (from Trey Anastasio’s solo band) and Skerik (extraordinary sax player who’s credits include Les Claypool, Galactic, Critters Buggin and many more).

Naîve Melodies was formed in Arcata, CA early in 2011, performing and honoring music created by Talking Heads. Sets are designed to interweave older and newer Talking Heads songs. Fans can expect to hear a wide range of material, from early art-rock, to radio hits, and everything in-between. With blends of three-part harmonies, synthesizers, and heavy grooves, this 3-piece dance machine does Talking Heads right!

Tracorum is an original Rock’n’Soul/Rhythm’n’Blues band from San Francisco, California. Epic live shows and original music are at the heart of this soul quenching, eclectic bay area talent. Steeped in traditional roots music the band has continued to create a positively unique sound that is the vast umbrella known as Tracorum.

Fresh Bakin’ presents the Reno debut of

SUBTROPIXX (Shane Suffriti and Gurbtron)

RL Grime has quickly risen to the forefront of the electronic music bass movement. He followed his debut EP “Grapes”, which included remixes from Shlohmo, Salva, and LOL Boys, with international club anthem “Trap On Acid”, and immediately garnered the support of Diplo,, A-Trak, Flosstradamus, 12th Planet, to name a few.

Since then he has released yet another global shaker: his bootleg “Mercy” remix collaboration with LA based producer Salva. The track had 120,000 views on Soundcloud in 2 days. RL Grime is reshaping electronic production. His melodically infused, Houston influenced flavor is connecting the roots of southern hip hop with the new age of electronic dance music and in turn dictating our understanding of what it means to be a 21st century producer.

Also performing will be Bass Science, Subtropixx, Who Care’s front man Young Aundee, and Maizon Tech. This show WILL SELL OUT, presale tickets are highly encouraged.
